With last nights rain, there was a thick fog blanketing over the valley this morning, as I was driving to work.
I had an epiphany.
As I drove, I could only see about 50 yards in front of me. Every 50 yards, something new would appear; an oncoming car, a tree to my left, a stop sign, an intersection, etc.
It occurred to me that maybe this is how we should be navigating through life. Instead of constantly focusing so far in the future, or even our next destination, why don’t we just watch things unfold one by one.
As I drove this morning, I couldn’t plan for what was coming, there wasn’t any warning of what lies ahead, I couldn’t worry about what was 2 miles down the road. It was just 50 yards revealed at a time.
So take life one thing at a time. Fully embrace the present moment. If you come across an intersection, or crossroads in life, decide in that moment, which way you want to go. If you’ve made a wrong choice, maybe in 50 yards, or 150 yards, another one will appear and you can choose again.
Wouldn’t this remove all the doubts and questions, anxiety and what if thinking? All we have is now, not what’s ahead, and not what’s left behind. Choose your path within your 100 yards and watch the magic and surprise, beauty and newness reveal itself one by one.
In love and light
